PROJECT OVERVIEW:
A Sino/British joint venture is currently gearing-up to build a new brewery in China. The partners in the planned undertaking include the local CHINA RESOURCES ENTERPRISES CO. LTD. [China] and UK-based SABMILLER.
Construction plans under consideration call for building a plant with an installed brewing capacity of 300,000 kilolitres per year. The new facility, to be sited at Dongguan in the southern China province of Guangdong, is expected to cost about $82,000,000 to build.
As things currently stand, construction start-up is tentatively scheduled to begin in November 2004 in order to enable the facility to come on-line in early 2006.
CRE, a subsidiary of CHINA RESOURCES NATIONAL CORP., employs a total staff of about 80,000 of which 97% is active in Mainland China. The company operates as a holding that is engaged in the retail, beverage, food processing and distribution as well as textile and petroleum distribution sectors.
SABMILLER, active in 40 countries across 4 continents, employs a total workforce of approximately 39,500. The company is acknowledged to be one of the world's largest brewers.
