Crime in San Diego decreased 0.6 percent in 2002 compared to 2001, according to year-end statistics compiled by the San Diego Police Department and released in early 2003.

Violent crimes -- murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- decreased 2.9 percent last year, from 7,406 in 2001 to 7,193 in 2002.
