Enterprise Zones Provide Important Benefits for San Diego Businesses

The state-designated Enterprise Zones provide the largest array of business development incentives in San Diego. These incentives include tax credits on hiring new employees, equipment investment credits, a job referral service, waiver of the Housing Trust Fund fees, and automatic access to permit assistance.

The City of San Diego administers three Enterprise Zones: the Metro, South Bay, and Naval Training Center zones. These zones are defined geographic areas where businesses can claim certain state income tax savings and other advantages.

In the Enterprise Zones, tax credits can be claimed on up to $31,500 of wages paid to each new qualified employee over a five-year period, and up to $1.35 million per year on manufacturing equipment that is purchased.
