Article Excerpt Much like a retailer at Christmastime, Jeff Kinney leans heavily on the summer tourist season to boost the annual bottom line of his Surf Club Surf Shop in Pacific Beach.
In a good year, Kinney has made as much as 40 percent of his annual revenue between June and September. Some years, it's less.
A lot depends on the weather.
"If it's good, sales are good," said Kinney, who has owned the Garnet Avenue shop since 1980. "If the weather's bad, sales are bad ... but we've never had a summer when we lost money."
Weather notwithstanding, tourism experts predict the summer season, which officially kicked off with the extended Memorial Day weekend, will be at least as good as last year, and possibly better.
