Poisoning swept under rug

It must be great to be Bush Almighty. With one swoop of his pen he will eliminate all the responsibility for cleaning up all the toxic waste the military and defense contractors have produced and will continue to produce forever.

When the proposal the spin doctors have named the Readiness and Range Preservation Initiative is finally shoved through Congress, the poisoning of our nation's vegetable food chain by the rocket fuel perchlorate will have been simply swept under the rug. Perchlorate has salted the irrigation waters of the Colorado River and has been linked to I.Q. reduction and attention deficit disorder in children. This rocket fuel poison scandal would have made the mad cow scare look like a happy meal in comparison, if not for Bush Almighty and his magic pen.

Three cheers for the May 27 letter rebutting criticisms of greedy Public Employees Retirement System retirees! I am so glad someone finally had the courage to say what a great many of us have been thinking.

PERS is not solely responsible for Oregon's current fiscal crisis. In fact, until only a short time ago most folks didn't even know or care about PERS.

Shame on the governor and the Legislature for trying to shift the blame onto the backs of hard-working public employees. I, for one, am thoroughly sick and tired of being blamed for the financial crisis in this state! How about putting the blame where it really belongs: On a Legislature that is...
