Rafer Johnson is one of the greatest all-around athletes in American history. A track and field star at UCLA, he specialied in the 10-event decathlon. Johnson set three world records in the event. After winning the silver medal in the 1956 Olympics, he never lost another decathlon, including the 1960 Olympics. Johnson was elected to the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983, and carried the torch at the opening ceremonies of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
