Biotechs may benefit from latest bioterror funding bill.

President Bush's signing of a bill on July 21 to guarantee $5.6 billion in the next 10 years in federal funding for companies to develop antidotes against bioterror attacks is welcome news for several San Diego-area biotechnology firms.

Just in the past month, executives from such local biotechs as Chimerix Inc., which develops a pill to prevent and treat smallpox infection, and Hollis-Eden Pharmaceuticals Inc., which works on an anti-radiation drug, have made their way to Washington, D.C., to lobby politicians to support the measure.
