CORRECTION (4/2/03): Larry Maltz is now playing the role of Jud in "Oklahoma!" at Cottage Theatre. A recent addition to the cast, Maltz replaces Davis Smith. A story about the play was published on page G5 on Sunday.

Love blooms even under the oddest of circumstances in a drama, a family show and two musicals that open on Lane County stages this week.

Lord Leebrick Theatre

With a play as powerful and popular as William Shakespeare's "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet," director John Schmor is just letting it rip.

"It just happens to be such a good play, at the basic level of entertainment, that I think so long as I don't get in its way too much it will sail as it always has sailed," Schmor says about the production that will open Friday at the Lord Leebrick Theatre.

But staging the sprawling story in the Lord Leebrick Theatre's modest playing area is not as easy as it might seem, and has caused Schmor to "edit and rethink" the play.
