PROJECT OVERVIEW:

The local POWER GRID OF INDIA LTD. (PGCIL) is currently gearing-up to install a 5,600 km-long optical cable network. The system is reportedly part of a 14,000-kilometre network linking 56 cities in the country. The cost to complete the project has been pegged at $95,000,000.

PGCIL, a state-owned company, employs a total staff of about 6,800. It is involved in the regulation and administration of utilities as well as being engaged in the telecommunications business. The company is considered to be the single largest transmission utility in the world.
