Road Users' Satisfaction Survey 2002 The results of research into the public's views on the management of England's motorways and strategic trunk roads are published today by the Highways Agency.

The 'Road Users' Satisfaction Survey 2002' is part of a series of surveys used by the Highways Agency to track changes in the opinions and concerns of road users, to identify priorities for improvements, and to measure the Agency's performance against the standards set out in the Road Users' Charter.

The results of the Survey are being used by the Agency to develop its services to better meet the needs of the travelling public. Those consulted included business and leisure travellers, transport managers, and organisations representing the interests of road users and others.

Among its main findings, the survey found:

-- Improved satisfaction with the accuracy of Variable Message Signs (VMS) on trunk roads;

-- Road users' main priorities for improvement are the availability and maintenance of roadside emergency phones, and wanting routine maintenance works to be undertaken when roads are less busy;

-- The proportion of travellers who experienced roadworks on their most recent journey has increased (29% to 40%), but the number experiencing substantial delays remained unchanged at 5%....
