Edna McKinney

COTTAGE GROVE - The funeral will be held May 1 for Edna Jewel McKinney of Cottage Grove, who died April 28 of age-related causes. She was 84.

McKinney was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Potter, Ark., to Daniel and Fannie Comb Roberts. She married Pharo Thweatt in Potter in 1933. He later died. She married Ralph McKinney in Stevenson, Wash., on Oct. 20, 1956.

She was a homemaker and a mother. She lived in Hatton, Ark., before moving to this area 58 years ago, and she lived in Lorane before settling in Cottage Grove. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery and cooking. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to pinochle clubs.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Laverne Huffman of Cottage Grove; two stepsons, Dewayne and Donnie McKinney, both of Salem; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A son, Loyde Thweatt, died previously.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Thursday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

V. Nadine Parsons

The funeral will be held May 1 for V. Nadine Parsons of Eugene, who died April 27 of age-related causes. She was 84.

Parsons was born July 6, 1918, in Clarksburg, Mo., to Gordon and Anna Karr Hunter. She married Howard Parsons in Boise in 1941. He died in 1998.

She lived in this area for 56 years and was employed as a produce worker with the Eugene Fruit Growers for 18 years. She enjoyed quilting, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Alan Parsons of Harrisburg; a sister, Gorda Sims of Eugene; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, William "Bill" Jr., died in 2000.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Thursday's service will be held at 1...
