CORRECTION (ran 5/1/03): Westmoreland Elementary School has been listed as surplus property by the Eugene School District, but the school won't close until a new school opens on the Patterson Elementary site in 2004. Its status was incorrect in a story on Page D1 on Wednesday.

Barring any last-minute balking by the Eugene School Board, the first on a long and growing list of empty school buildings will go on the real estate market next month.

Laurel Hill Elementary School, one of seven schools that closed during the economic recession in the early 1980s, has been deemed "surplus"...
