She knew something was going on. Jordan Sauvage was well aware that there would be much more to this day than her Oregon-record hammer throw performance.

On April 5, some 48 hours after she heaved the hammer 191 feet, 4 inches at the Texas Relays in Austin to crunch the UO standard by nearly 5 feet, she had her suspicions confirmed.

"I was pregnant," said Sauvage, a senior and en route to a family with her husband of less than two years, Curt.

"I was feeling like I couldn't throw well. The whole time we were in Texas it was on my mind. I didn't want to get too wrapped up into it. It was a crazy time."

But on her second throw, Sauvage topped the Duck record of 186-6 by Maureen Morrison that had stood for three years.

"I guess I just relaxed," said Sauvage, who is expected to jump into the hammer ring Saturday in the Oregon Twilight meet at Hayward Field, the Ducks'...
