The smell of hard-core homeless street living oozed off Roger Dorn when he walked into the Reflections beauty salon on Tuesday night, but they treated him like somebody special anyway.

Hair stylist Elizabeth Miller ushered him over to a low-slung sink, helped him ease into a chair, slipped a towel under his neck and asked him to relax as she turned on the water and waited for it to heat up.

"Let me know if it's too hot," Miller said as she directed the stream over his graying hair.
