The Oregon School Activities Association has brought 44 boys basketball tournaments to McArthur Court and made it clear that the 77-year old building is one of its preferred sites.

"We left Mac Court only because we couldn't get reservations for the dates we wanted," OSAA executive director Tom Welter said.

The University of Oregon didn't want to lose the OSAA as a tenant, but the success and popularity of the school's men's and women's basketball teams in recent seasons made it impossible to clear a week at Mac Court in early March.

"The challenge a few years ago was that we were bidding for NIT spots and the NCAA women's tournament at the same time as the high school tournaments, and that got extremely difficult to guarantee OSAA slots and protect the interests of our program," said Steve McBride, Oregon's associate athletic director for internal operations. "Now, with the two Pac-10 tournaments, that opens up a window at Mac Court."

The Ducks are hoping to bring the Class 4A boys basketball tournament back to Eugene next year for the first time since 1965. UO athletic director Bill Moos will present their plan to do so Monday morning at an OSAA executive board meeting in Wilsonville.
