A double-barreled blast from the courts and Senate last week promises to derail media ownership deregulation for years to come.

That was the reaction from key broadcast industry sources in the wake of a long-anticipated decision from the Court of Appeals in Philadelphia that threw out most of the Federal Communications Commission's controversial effort to loosen rules limiting broadcasters' ability to buy other stations and newspapers in their markets.

"[Deregulation] is going nowhere,'' said one well-placed industry source.
