Article Excerpt The franchise partnership: Chicago's source for minority franchisees: started in 1999, the Franchise Partnership is a unique non-profit organization in Chicago, Ill. that serves as a franchise broker and financier for franchise companies looking to recruit African-American and Hispanic franchisees in the Chicago area. After four years in operation, the organization has put 12 minority franchisees in business. Franchising World spoke with Dave Chandler, franchise relations manager, and Torrio Osborne, business development officer, of the Franchise Partnership to learn how this success was achieved. FW: What is the Franchise Partnership?
Chandler: It is a partnership between two non-profit organizations, the Latino Franchise Project and the Connections for Community Ownership, local banks, foundations, local government, and the participating franchise companies. The partnership utilizes the Hispanic networks of the Latino Franchise Project and the African American networks of the Connections for Community Ownership, in addition to referrals from local government agencies, advertising, and public relations to create a pool of thousands of potential minority business owners.
