WESTBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2003

New York Community Bancorp, Inc. (NYSE: NYB) (the "Company") today announced that CFS Investments New Jersey, Inc., a second-tier subsidiary of the Company, completed the sale of $60.0 million of preferred securities of Richmond County Capital Corporation in a private placement transaction.

The private placement was made to "Qualified Institutional Buyers," as defined in Rule 144A of the Rules and Regulations promulgated under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended.

The preferred securities consisted of $10.0 million, or 100 shares, of Richmond County Capital Corporation Series B Non-Cumulative Exchangeable Fixed-Rate Preferred Stock, stated value $100,000 per share (the "Series B Preferred Stock") and $50.0 million, or 500 shares,...
