The Bible advises us that there is a time to love and to hate, along with a litany of other suggestions for good guidance. I find nowhere in the list, however, counsel on relinquishing editorships, but were there such an admonition, it might read, "There's a time to give up responsibilities for producing the annual West Virginia (University Philological Papers and to turn in your badge." I must heed those unwritten words. But first, I think a bit of history may be in order. (1)
