John Michael Hairston, 39, is Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer, of Hancock Holding Company and Hancock Bank in Gulfport.
John Hairston's greatest challenge occurred in 1997 when his youngest daughter, Kennedy, then six months old, was diagnosed with an untreatable and ultimately terminal illness, mitochondrial myopathy.
"Within a few months, she regressed to the neurological equivalent of an infant, and became unable to breathe without a ventilator," said Hairston. "Having never experienced any tragedy in our family, this was a terrible blow. We received excellent advice from a physician at Ochsners Hospital in New Orleans, who told us that we had to decide one of two directions.
