FINANCIAL Adviser: You are running a new recruitment programme. Why are you doing it now in view of the recent management restructure, which involved a number of redundancies and resignations?

Geoffrey Morphitis: 2002 was really our year of reorganisation. We brought on a completely new sales management structure, and during that period of uncertainty it was difficult to recruit.

FA: With a view to recruiting how many people?

GM: I think it is really a matter of quality people. I am often amused by the targets of other IFA companies. If you add them all together that is about three times the population.

FA: Define quality.

GM: Quality is about people who are properly qualified.

FA: What is the minimum qualification you will accept?

GM: The minimum is FPC3, clearly, but thereafter any parts of AFPC would get people to the head of the queue. It is the quality of the advice we are looking for and proven track records, rather than simply putting bums on seats we do not see that as the way forward. There is a high maintenance cost to that.

FA: Is this more a replacement programme?

GM: Yes, if you were to say purely number for number, of course that is true. But it is also trying to...
