American Legion teams in the loser's bracket of tournaments usually don't have a lot of pitching left.

But Arlington and Mount Prospect got a big lift from a pair of left-handers who went above and beyond their normal call to duty in the Cook County tournament at Rec Park in Arlington Heights.

Tim Wolowiec, who will be a junior at Hersey, kept Prospect alive as he allowed only 1 earned run and went the distance with a 7-hitter in a 13-4 victory that eliminated Morton Grove on Friday afternoon.

Then Nick Fredona came through in the evening for Arlington as he threw a 6-hitter to knock out Prospect 9-1.

Now Arlington (24-19) gets a chance to win its seventh straight County title and avenge a 6-5 loss to Wilmette (29-10). They'll meet at noon today at Rec Park with Arlington needing to win twice...
