Itawamba County boasts low jobless rate for December.

FULTON -- At a time that many plants have announced their closures there is good news in Itawamba County -- the county's low jobless rate for December ranked it eighth in the state and first in Northeast Mississippi.

"We've been very fortunate," said Tim Weston, executive director of the Itawamba County Development Council (ICDC). "The Lord has shined upon us."

Itawamba County's unemployment rate was 4.1% in December, down from 5.6% in November, according to the Mississippi Employment Security Commission. This represents an increase in employment of 1.5%, or 170 workers. The number of workers in the civilian labor force went down by 120 during the month, and the number of employed workers increased by 50.

In December the civilian labor force in Itawamba County was 11 ,570 compared to November's 11,690. Statistics...
