SOUTHAVEN -- Robin Costa, managing trustee of the Maddox Foundation, attended her first ice hockey games during the Memphis RiverKings' first season in Southaven, going along with friends as well as one time with the team dentist.

"He knew all sorts of details -- who had all their teeth knocked out and all that," said Costa.

The RiverKings, who came to Memphis as a part of the six-team reincarnation of the Central Hockey League, had played in the MidSouth Coliseum since 1992 under the ownership of Horn Chen. After a string of successful seasons in Memphis, the franchise fell on hard times, posting a 9-57-4 record in 1999-2000 and subsequently moving to the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. With a new coach, Don Shedden, and the addition of several key players, the RiverKings captured the 2000-01 Eastern Division regular season title with a 43-21-6 record and advanced all the way to the Conference...
