Edna Moody

Edna L. Moody of Eugene died Feb. 21 of age-related causes. She was 92.

Moody was born Jan. 24, 1911, in Eugene to Harry and Daisy Endicott Lewellen. She attended Eugene High School.

She married Lorenzo Moody in Eugene on May 28, 1938. The couple was married 58 years before his death.

Except for 15 years in Florence, Moody lived in the Eugene area all her life. She was a homemaker.

Her interests included piano, ceramics and sewing.

Survivors include a son, Patric of Eugene; and a brother, Hank Lewellen of Eugene.

No service is planned. Poole-Larsen Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Sparlin

A celebration of life will be held March 3 for Edward Franklin Sparlin of Eugene, who died Feb. 24 of age-related causes. He was 83.

Sparlin was born May 10, 1919, in Quapaw, Okla., to Ora and Alsie Floyd Sparlin. He married Alice Joyner in Hutchinson, Kan., on Sept. 26, 1942. She died in September 1995.

He spent his childhood in Oklahoma and attended medical technical school in St. Louis, Mo. He returned to Oklahoma and later moved to Texas to continue his education. He served in the Army during World War II and trained medical units in Georgia and Florida.

He moved to Eugene in 1946 and attended the University of Oregon. He worked as a medical technician at the Eugene Hospital and Clinic until his retirement in 1978.

He served as a volunteer firefighter. He enjoyed traveling, camping, deep sea fishing and hunting. He used a wheelchair for the past 25 years, and he encouraged other people in wheelchairs to remain active. He was a member of Emerald Baptist Church in Eugene.

Survivors include a daughter, Carrie Sparlin of Seattle.

Monday's celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. at the Emerald Baptist Church in Eugene. Rest-Haven Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Handicap Accessibility Fund at Emerald Baptist Church in Eugene or to the Eugene Mission.

Esther Greene

YONCALLA - The funeral will be held March 3 for Esther Greene of Yoncalla, who died Feb. 25 of cancer. She was 71.
