Oregon finished the first round of the Pac-10 season mentally battered and physically bruised.

Thursday night, however, the Ducks came out swinging.

In what Bev Smith described as one of the "best defensive efforts that we've had," the Ducks allowed a season-low number of points as they defeated Arizona State 68-52 at McArthur Court in front of 4,216.

The win improves Oregon's record to 8-11 overall, 4-6 in the conference. Coupled with Saturday's win at Washington State, the Ducks have now posted back-to-back wins for only the second time this season.

"I think there was some heart shown tonight, that we're ready to turn the page and get after it and finish plays and pursue the ball until we have it," Smith said.

Oregon, which was off its game offensively - shooting only 38.6 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the three-point line - was led by freshman center Carolyn Ganes' 13 points. Brandi Davis added 11 and Kayla Steen scored 10 off the bench.
