SALEM - Oregon's nursing home industry brought some of its best advocates - the elderly people it cares for - to the Capitol on Thursday to rally against cuts.

Close to 1,000 senior citizens, many of them sitting in wheelchairs, huddled under umbrellas or crowded into a temporary tent-like shelter, withstood drenching rain to make their point. They demanded that the Legislature and Gov. Ted Kulongoski find a way to stop proposed cuts triggered by Tuesday's defeat of the Measure 28 tax increase.
