The Grand Chef's Gala, featuring the presentation of the Jean Banchet Awards for Culinary Excellence, takes place Saturday at the Fairmont Chicago, 200 N. Columbus Dr.
Chicago-area food writers, critics and event planners have selected 39 nominees for the awards, named for Le Francais founder Banchet, recognizing culinary talent and originality among Chicago- area chefs.
The evening includes a cocktail reception and a four-course dinner prepared by executive chefs from the Fairmont Hotel, with desserts from chefs Rick Tramanto of Tru, Tony Mantuano of Spiaggia, Erin Mooney of Spring, Martial Noguier of one sixtyblue, Carrie Nahabedian of Naha, Carlos Nieto of Carlos and James Wierzelewski of Aria. The evening begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $275 per person. Proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. (312) 236-4491.
