Action Pipeline Contractors has specialized in laying pipe for its entire 37 years in business, but until recently the company had not encountered a project as deep and long as needed for a new water main going under a busy city intersection.

To enhance Tucson, Arizona's central water supply system, the job called for placing a 54-in, ductile iron pipe 40 ft beneath the intersection of Aviation Highway and Alvernon Way and under a nearby drainage canal for a total distance of 200 ft.
