Doctors, patients worried about reimbursement cuts. (Focus Health Care).

With 50% of the population of Mississippi on either Medicare or Medicaid, a large portion of the state's residents could be affected by continuing cuts in the Medicare program.

In 2002 the federal government cut Medicare payments to doctors by 5.4%. The Bush Administration has announced that Medicare payments to doctors will be cut another 4.4% this year. The cuts are scheduled to go into effect by March 1 unless there is action by Congress.
