OAKRIDGE - Dee Klupenger was a hard-working, big-hearted woman who believed in second chances.

So when Brandon Wayne Hall came knocking at her door two weeks ago, she decided to let the troubled 20-year-old do a little work around her modest house on Elm Street.

It was a decision she would quickly regret, son-in-law Dan Bolin said Wednesday.

In a phone call the day before she died, Klupenger told one of her three daughters: "This young man makes me really nervous. ... He comes to the door wanting unusual things," according to Bolin.

Today, Hall remains in the Lane County Jail, awaiting trial...
