Playing on emotions

I am one of those who voted no on Measure 28. Why do government officials always have to play on the people's emotions? I feel bad for the elderly and the disabled. Do they deserve to have everything they have worked for most of their lives suddenly ripped away from them? Most have fallen in places they do not want to be, but because of poor health and other reasons they are in a lost world.

The housecleaning should now start upstairs with the top government officials who do nothing but complain about how they need another raise because they are so overworked. They should be grateful they are working and not among the unemployed. Why do middle-class folks have to carry everyone? It has been this way for years. We help the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. We have all heard that expression many times.

It's about time government officials realize that we the people are tired of paying taxes and seeing nothing done. Where do all the tax dollars go? How many times do we have to say no before government officials get it?

Defeat a clear message

Once again Oregon voters have proven that they have more common sense than their politicians.

The defeat of Measure 28 should send a clear message to all who are feeding at the public tax trough to curb their appetite for new revenues and to do what the rest of us do in hard times - curb spending and make do with what we have. However, true to form, the politicians are apt to roll out a new tax scheme soon.
