The study of Romance languages from a comparative perspective continues to be a topic of major interest for European scholars who consider themselves Romanists, a brand of linguists less common in the United States, where Romance linguistics is far from being as popular as it has been in the Old World since its emergence in the nineteenth century.
Two Spanish scholars, both affiliated with prestigious universities in Spain, have recently had the courage to compile a bibliography of the most important contributions to the field of Romance linguistics. Their work is aimed specifically at the Hispanic reader, since, surprisingly, no such publication has previously appeared in Spain or Latin America, in spite of the obvious fact that Spanish is the most widely spoken Romance language on the globe.
