Education and information were the underlying themes of a successful innovative dual- purpose event organised by the European Association for the Self Adhesive Tape Industry (AFERA), The Hague, The Netherlands. This took place in Brussels, Belgium, March 23-26 this year. The synergy of the two meetings was underscored by a good level of international attendance at the association's 1st Tape College, which attracted 90 participants from 16 countries. This was arranged as a prelude to AFERA's 2nd biennial technical seminar attended by 124 industry professionals from 17 countries.

TAPE COLLEGE

According to Lutz Jacob of ExxonMobil Chemical Europe Inc., Machelen, The Netherlands, the Tape College is essentially based on AFERA's Tape University 101, organised annually by the association's American counterpart, the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC), Northbrook (IL), which has provided educational seminars for 26 years. Lutz Jacob says that the college is part of AFERA's continuing effort in add value and diversity to its membership.

This was certainly supported by the content of the current event, which covered a wide variety of matters affecting the adhesive tape industry. For example there were papers giving a broad overview of the sector and also there was the opportunity for participants to select and vote for what they believed to be the two most significant and interesting papers.
