Changes required to keep local film industry rolling: Schwarzenegger trying to boost business by issuing executive order.

The San Diego Film Commission says it has generated $45 million for San Diego's economy this year.

But, according to many in the industry, if things don't start changing soon, that figure could dramatically decrease--impacting thousands of jobs and employees in the region.

Established in 1976 by then-San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson, the San Diego Film Commission is funded through the city, county and Port of San Diego. It helps promote and maintain filming throughout the San Diego region.

In 2004, the San Diego region has hosted more than 380 productions, according to the commission.

A Hollywood heavyweight, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has begun to work toward boosting the film industry in California, issuing an executive order as part of his ongoing effort to establish a working relationship between the entertainment industry and the government.
