Why is Tiger Woods black and Keanu Reeves white?

The champion golfer, who changed his sport single-handedly after becoming the youngest player to win the Masters tournament, and the actor, who changed the look of movies forever with his special-effects-enhanced performance in The Matrix, are both part Asian.

Yet if either man were obscure, not famous enough to be known simply by his distinctive first name, Woods would still be black (despite having invented his own category of "Cablinasian" as a child) and Reeves could be the archetypal California dude of his earliest roles. Even though racial categories may be more mythological than real, the fiction is powerful enough to determine our identifies.
