Installing a global positioning system (GPS) device on a suspect's vehicle constitutes search and seizure and therefore requires a warrant, the Washington Supreme Court ruled recently in a case of first impression. (Washington v. Jackson, 76 P.3d 217 (Wash. 2003).) The court also held that the warrant issued in the case was valid.
