Poring over class notes outside the Hamilton Commons dining hall, University of Oregon freshmen Andrea McFarlane and Emily Bulchis said that not only had they already found time to fill out and cast their ballots but that nearly all their friends have as well.

"I just think people feel so strongly one way or the other that they're going to vote," Bulchis said. "It seems like nearly everybody is voting."

All across campus, students say they're casting ballots this year, and national polls indicate that UO students aren't alone. Dismissed in recent years as Election Day slackers, college students this year might finally live up to their electoral potential as a voting bloc with enough muscle to swing a close election.
