Bloomba 2 and NEO 3.

I've been discussing various e-mail solutions for lawyers utilizing "direct-from-the-net" e-mail for the last two columns. (If your firm is using a Lotus Notes or Exchange Server e-mail solution, Gmail or the Opera e-mail module won't do you a lot of good. But even if you don't need it at the office, you also have personal e-mail and may wish to access e-mail from home.)

This week, I'll discuss Bloomba, version 2.0, and version 3.0 of Nelson E-mail Organizer (NEO), an add-on for Microsoft Outlook. Both programs purport to index and otherwise organize e-mail messages for fast and easy retrieval, in essence supplying one of the more interesting features of Gmail, without subjecting your messages to scanning by the Google robots.

I downloaded a 27.5 Megabyte file and ran it to install the program. Bloomba picked up e-mail account information from my Outlook files. The earlier verison of Bloomba included the vendor's SAProxy Pro anti-SPAM software as a separate program; this version includes SAProxy Pro as part of the single download and installation.

The program still indexes e-mail messages (but not, apparently, attachments) as they arrive, permit subscriptions to RSS news feeds,...
