Article Excerpt I try to report on what's happening in CALR, Computer Assisted Legal Research, from the top-of-the-line Westlaw and Lexis, down to the ever-increasing number of free online repositories of state and federal case, statutory and regulatory law. It has been awhile since I've looked at Versuslaw, the least costly of the paid research systems. When I first came across the system, Versuslaw cost about $7 per month per lawyer, and did a reasonable job, at that price, if it happened to have a significant library in your jurisdiction. You didn't get the bells and whistles available through the big two, the interface was pretty kludgy, and the collection didn't go very far back in many cases. But most state current law was available and Versuslaw had a search system adequate, in most cases, to enable you to find it.
