Current Awareness seems very important, these days. Current awareness "Alerts" of various sorts have long been available on the major fee-based legal research facilities but such alerts can be increasingly supplemented by a wide variety of sources providing current information by e-mail or by Web site "syndication".

I've previously written about RSS feeds and how to read them using both on desktop news aggregator / readers, and on the Web-based Bloglines. (RSS stands for RDF Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication, a specially formatted XML document.) Since joining Bloglines, I've all but abandoned the desktop RSS Readers that I've previously installed, and also all but abandoned my search for the perfect RSS Reader. (If anyone has a favorite candidate for the "perfect" category, please drop me a note.)
