Article Excerpt After what seems like months of waiting I finally received my copy of the latest version of Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Office Professional (2003). The Suite comes in at least three configurations, and purports to be the latest and greatest in everything you might need to run your office. It isn't, however, specifically designed for the law office.
[What's In It]
The base versions of Office Suite 2003 come with the 2003 versions of, in alphabetical order, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word. Excel, of course, is the electronic spreadsheet, Outlook, the E-mail / Calendar / Contact / desktop program, PowerPoint, the presentation creation and display software and Word for processing words. That's all you get in the $400 Standard Edition. If you purchase the Small Business Edition ($450), you also get Publisher, and Business Contact Manager built into Outlook. Another $50 for the Professional Edition and you get Microsoft's Access database, and additional support for XML and IRM (Intellectual Rights Management).. A "Professional Enterprise" edition is available for volume purchase together with "software assurance", but I was unable to get a fix on pricing.
Each level has a reduced-price upgrade path from prior editions of Office and it is even possible that you might be able to upgrade from an old "standard"...
