A company that can offer a full set of capabilities that lead to an enhanced, total sensor solution (i.e., packaging, electronics, fabrication, and test capabilities, along with sensor manufacturing) can be well-positioned to capture increasing sensor business. A comprehensive, single-source sensor provider can enable customers to reap key benefits (time, cost, and product quality) from not having to use multiple vendors for different aspects of the overall sensor solution, especially if such as an integrated sensor supplier can cost-effectively provide state-of-the-art, high quality capabilities with respect to sensor design, manufacturing, packaging, fabrication, testing, and signal processing electronics.
Mems Technology Bhd (MemsTech), a Malaysian holding company that is comprised of Sinagpore-based SensFab Pte Ltd. and SenzPak Pte Ltd., is pursuing key activities to expand its sensor manufacturing and production, foundry, and packaging capabilities.
SensFab Pte Ltd., incorporated in May 2000 and ISO 9001 and QS9000 certified, is primarily engaged in the fabrication of silicon micromachined sensors. Their core capabilities include sensor design and fabrication technology and ASIC design and fabrication technology. SenzPak Pte Ltd., also incorporated in May 2000 and ISO 9001 certified, is primarily involved in the packaging and testing of MEMS-based sensors. It has expertise in package design and testing and offers application-specific, system-level packaging.
Having become purportedly the first independent MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) manufacturing and packaging foundry in Asia, MemsTech has been exploiting opportunities to manufacture and sell MEMS sensors (i.e., silicon micromachined microphones, pressure sensors, thermopiles, as well as accelerometers). The company, which had sales of about $5.3 million for the year ending July 2003, plans to launch an IPO in the Malaysian Mesdaq market around August.
