* Recently despite its tightly drawn structures, the Catholic church has experienced a crisis that continues to test the faith and endurance of its members. We in the Loretto Women's Network are saddened at the violation of children and young people by those whom they undoubtedly thought trustworthy. We are puzzled that the bishops, who would have acted instantly to remove a priest who called for the ordination of women, first dragged their feet when it came to dealing with pedophiles, then silently moved those accused around to other parishes. The U.S. bishops have yet to call for a judgment about those within their own ranks whose lack of oversight allowed abuse to flourish. We wonder if they realize what impression it makes on people both in and outside the church when they hand this matter over...
