Of all the questions thrown Erin Murtha's way - Which college will you attend next fall, Erin? Which sport will you play? What, no hoops? What lies ahead for the Patriots this winter? You recovered yet from that regional-final loss to Grayslake? -one answer is especially startling.
"I shrunk," she says.
Murtha's answer is to the riveting, well-thought-out, penetrating query, "So, how tall are 'ya now?"
"I went to get my physical two years ago and I was 5-9," says Murtha, whose most recent physical revealed she's 5-8 (we think, anyway).
Honey, we shrunk the superstar athlete.
In truth, Murtha, a Stevenson senior, doesn't have to worry about shrinking for, say, at least another 60 years, when she's hunched over and perhaps boasting to her grandchildren how she started on an Elite Eight basketball team as a high school sophomore (true), how she dunked (lie) and how she helped lead her team downstate again her senior year (maybe).
Besides, when you play for Stevenson's girls basketball team, certain things never shrink.
Like expectations.
A shrink would tell you you're not crazy if you believe this to be true.
