Starbucks runs hot and cold

Starbucks has rapidly expanded in New York, but running the shops is proving to be a bit of a grind.

According to a research report from Salomon Smith Barney, a top Starbucks executive admits that it's hard to provide New Yorkers with a ``consistently positive customer experience.''

Howard Behar, president of Starbucks' North American operation, says the company is trying to improve customer service for this ``tough yet profitable market.'' The company may add more staff to its stores, and it could even divide the city into two management territories. The Seattle chain has 5,800 outlets around the globe, including 150 in New York.
