``Just DoITT'' isn't likely to replace the similar Nike slogan on athletic T-shirts anytime soon.

But the city agency with the unsexy name, the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, is gaining stature under Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

One of New York's smallest agencies-best known for maintaining city computers and regulating pay phones- DoITT is on the verge of being an information powerhouse. Early next year, it will launch a new 311 center to receive, handle and track the millions of complaint and information-seeking calls made to more than a dozen city departments annually, excluding police and fire emergency calls.

The agency is also heading up efforts to encourage the construction of telecom networks...
