Fort Worth's Bass Performance Hall opened in 1998 to serve as a permanent home for the city's major performing arts organizations, including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra the Texas Ballet Theater, the Fort Worth Opera, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Since then, the 2,056-seat complex--occupying a full city block in the Sundance Square historic district--has become the crown jewel of the city's downtown revitalization efforts and a prominent symbol of Fort Worth's rich cultural offerings The hall is known for its superb acoustics, exceptional sight lines, and an ambience rivaling that of the world's great classical venues.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra--which has helped define the city's cultural identity since 1900--continues to strengthen that identity through expanded community partnerships and creative programming. The 2003-2004 season introduced a revamped Texas instruments Classical Series with "Masters of the Romantic Era," which includes Rachmaninoff piano concertos performed by pianist Stephen Hough (April 22-25, April 29-May 1, and May 6-9). On a different note, the symphony's Audi Pops Series features the Dukes of Dixieland (April 9-10) and Eileen Ivers (April 16-18).

Denton about 30 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth has long been recognized as a hotbed of musical talent. Perhaps the most well-known fruit of this fertile ground is the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, held each year on the last full weekend in April. More than 100,000 people gather in Civic Center Park to hear approximately 1,300 musicians--professionals and amateurs alike--play some of the best jazz and rhythm and blues around Headliners this year (April 23-25) include Arturo Sandoval, Buddy Guy and Double Trouble. and Brave Combo The Festival also includes dance, choral, and orchestral performances as well as a juried fine arts and crafts show.

The Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts and Corporate Presentations opened in 2002 in Richardson, part of a joint public private partnership to create new civic vitality in this Dallas satellite city The largest component of the new Galatyn Park Urban Center, the 117,000 square-foot Eisemann Center features three primary performance venues--the 1,563-seat Margaret and Al Hill Performance Hall, a 368-seat theater, and a 3,150-square foot multiuse room. All are tied to a state-of-the art "broadcast infrastructure," which orchestrates rise facility's video and audio systems. In September, the Kansas City-based Theater League, a Broadway presenter, will begin bringing equity shows to the Eisemann stage, including Cats, Grease, Smokey Joe's Cafe, and Aida.
