The Melville Society Cultural Project is thriving.
After two years of affiliation with the New Bedford Whaling Museum and its Kendall Institute, great progress has been made. As discussed in Jill Barnum's "Chowder" report, three lecture series are well-established: the Melville Birthday Lecture, presented on the Thursday night closest to Melville's birthday; the Presidential Lecture, presented just before the Moby-Dick Marathon, which begins at noon on January 3 each year; and the Melville Lyceum Series, a forum for exploring current scholarship.
