All too often, the Human Resources functions of organizations are not utilized to their fullest potential in corporate scenarios. Much to the chagrin of many an HR pro, this is due to the fact that Human Resources as a practice can often be undervalued by CEOs, Boards, and upper management, leaving HR to be corralled into a "use as needed" role as opposed to a critical component of an organization's management practices. Such scenarios leave HR experts and entire HR departments wallowing in unrealized potential. In short, if a corporate HR executive is to be effective -- and ultimately benefit his or her company as a whole -- it is crucial to be heard and respected by that company's CEO. The bottom line is that Human Resources Pros must remember that the discipline of HR is as important as any other element of the company. This is a message that must be sent to the CEO.
